A WOMAN escaped death by a centimetre after her husband accidentally shot her in the mouth with a HARPOON.
Elisangela Borborema Rosa was hit by the spear after it went off while her husband was cleaning it.
The weapon hit her cervical spine and nearly killed Elisangela, neurosurgeon Allan da Costa said.
The 28-year-old was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery following the incident in Arraial do Cabo, Brazil.
She is expected to make a full recovery.
Police said they are investigating the case but don’t believe Elisangela’s husband tried to murder her.
A police spokeswoman said: “Everything indicates it was an accident but we are investigating.
“We don’t think the husband tried to kill her. But once she fully recovers we will be able to question her and get a clearer picture of what happened.”
